Corporate relations

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering works hand in hand with industry, engineering solutions to society's challenges. As a global citizen, we are engaged in research efforts that will positively affect the lives of people around the world. The University Corporate Relations Office, in conjunction with corporate relations efforts at the college level, remains the primary vehicle for corporate outreach and strategic engagement. The Career and Professional Development Center has an employer relations function that focuses on corporate outreach and introduction to the academic areas.

Companies with a strong ECE discipline focus and desire to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with the department have multiple opportunities to engage with ECE students:

  • Companies are welcome to use the IEEE Tech Talks forum to identify and schedule a suitable lecture for all ECE students
  • Prior to the Technical Opportunities Conference (TOC), the department hosts a networking event. To receive more information about this event, companies should select "ECE" as a hiring interest during registration

Numerous sponsorship opportunities exist at the department level that create additional opportunities for company–student engagement:

  • The annual Build18 Freestyle Tinkering Festival
  • Professional conferences and events associated with other ECE student organizations

The ECE Department, College of Engineering, and Carnegie Mellon University support student efforts to survey the career landscape and make careful, informed employment decisions. Whether they choose a more traditional engineering direction or a related career in finance, consulting, teaching, or law, there is ample opportunity for students to engage with company representatives and explore career options. Students interested in pursuing a startup will find entrepreneurial education, training, and university infrastructure available to assist their interests and efforts.

ECE faculty and staff advisors are available to help students evaluate career pathways in academe and industry. The ECE Office of Alumni & Employer Relations provides opportunities to engage with industry directly and make important career connections.
