Sekar and team discover internet vulnerabilities

The Register quoted a study by CS’ Yuvraj Agarwal, ECE’s Vyas Sekar, and students Aqsa Kashaf, Carolina Zarate, and Hanruo Wang that uncovered how hackers exploit third-party internet services to hamper or stall website traffic. They found domain name service providers, content delivery networks, and certificate authorities vulnerable to traffic overload after studying the DDoS attack on Dyn. Since many sites rely on singular services to manage traffic, much of the internet is an easy target for hackers. Read the article here.
