Sekar's work in reliable network security earns him a Facebook Research Award

Vyas Sekar, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering and CyLab faculty member, has been selected to receive a Facebook Faculty Award for his research in networking, security, and systems.

Each year, Facebook’s Research and Academic Relations Program acknowledges top professors whose research is advancing their field of study and is relevant to Facebook. Sekar will receive a $30,000 award to support his cutting-edge research on reliable network security. The Facebook Faculty Award comes just a few months after the National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded Sekar with the prestigious NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award.

Sekar received his Ph.D. from the computer science department at Carnegie Mellon University in 2010. He earned his bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where he was awarded the President of India Gold Medal. His work has been recognized with best paper awards at ACM SIGCOMM, ACM CoNext, and ACM Multimedia.
