Accomplishments:
  • Developed the fabrication processes for ring-shaped vertical MRAM
  • Designed and built a test bed for measuring low resistance CPP/GMR devices
  • Successfully fabricated three CPP/GMR ring-shaped MRAM test structures
  • Achieved one step switching of the free layer in our MRAM devices
  • Significantly enhanced the GMR Ratio in our ring-shaped MRAM elements

  • Experimental study of the remanence in perpendicular recording head with contact tester
  • Simulation study of novel perpendicular medium ( Percolated Perpendicular Media ) for ultra-high area recording density
Accomplishments:
  • Experimentally studied the remanence and domain lock-up in the perpendicular write head. Micromagnetic modeling of the perpendicular head showed that the domain configuration and remanence are sensitive to the head geometry and structures
  • Proposed a novel perpendicular medium microstructure for ultra high area recording density, and the magnetic properties and recording performance of the medium have been studied
  • Evaluated the recording effects of the switching field angles on the isotropic and oriented thin film media

  • Study of switching properties in advanced perpendicular and patterned magnetic media
  • Magnetic high-field Polar-MOKE microscope – current status – laser is inoperable, service call placed.
  • Use of complimentary techniques, such as VSM, MFM, and contact recording , to yield a complete picture of switching dynamics.
  • Developed a measurement algorithm for the VSM that will decouple the soft-underlayer from the recording layer.
  • Modelling the measurement method to provide insights as to the variation in anisotropy.
