Rajkumar discusses autonomous vehicle safety on “If Then”

Elon Musk has sparked a lot of conversation recently with his assertion that the media is misrepresenting the safety of self-driving cars, and that Tesla’s autopilot feature has already saved lives. Raj Rajkumar spoke on Slate’s “If Then” on the safety of current autonomous vehicle features. “What we know today is that advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), like automated braking, are extremely helpful in eliminating or mitigating the extent of crashes,” says Rajkumar. “When we make the next step to automation, I do not think we have enough evidence to draw conclusions the way Mr. Musk is doing.” Read the article.
