Abstract

Software Define Radio (SDR) is a well know concept in wireless communications: it enables a radio to reconfigure its transciever properties through software only. As wireless systems become more energy efficient, they start to become more reliant on energy harvesting and less reliant on batteries. But energy harvesting results in unpredictable breaks in energy supply causing radio to be intermittently-powered. Therefore even a simple task to transferring new code image to SDR running only on energy harvesting is a challenge. In this talk we will show how we made a first step towards a fully wirelessly-reconfigurable battery-less passive radio. Based the architecture of computational RFIDs (CRFID) we will show how can we flash a bettery-less radio in in time comparable to updating contactless NFC cards.

Bio

Przemysław (Przemek) Pawełczak is a (tenure-track) assistant professor in the TU Delft's Software Technology department. He graduated with a PhD degree from the same university in 2009. He completed his postdoctoral training at UCLA in 2011 and held a research scientist position at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin in 2012. His PhD research targeted performance analysis of cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum access networks. His current research interest focus on intermittently-powered devices and their applications to wireless communications. Dr. Pawełczak was a TPC Co-Chair of IEEE DySPAN 2017 and IEEE RFID 2017. He currently serves as an Editor of IEEE Wireless Communications Letters and is a TPC member of IEEE INFOCOM since 2016.
