Abstract

The prevalence of cloud and big data has changed the landscape of datacenter. The recent advances in semiconductor technology will play an increasingly important role in propelling the cloud and big data to new horizons. Enterprise SSDs, such as PCIe NVMe SSDs, offer compelling benefits for data center managers, and major improvements in NAND performance, reliability, power efficiency and endurance reduce the data center TCO. In addition, vertically integrated and TCO-optimized semiconductor solutions will have greater impact in hyperscale data centers. In this talk, Dr. Yang Seok Ki gives an overview of research activities in Samsung and their achievements and future directions.

Bio

Dr. Yang Seok Ki is a Director in the Memory Solutions Lab at Samsung Semiconductor Inc. He leads the advanced datacenter solutions group, and drives a storage-centric computing paradigm. Before he joined Samsung, he worked for the Oracle server technology group that builds distributed database server systems. Prior to his industrial experience, he worked for the Information Sciences Institute of University of Southern California and Center for Networked Systems, University of California, San Diego. He received his Ph.D. degree in EECS from Seoul National University, and he has published more than 40 papers in the area of parallel and distributed computing.
