International Women's Day

During this academic year, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is excited to launch The Judith Resnik Year of Women in ECETo showcase and celebrate the incredible talent that women bring to our field, the department hosts monthly events for our female community, including motivational speakers and networking receptions.


September: Undergraduate networking reception
When: Wednesday, September 14, 4:30-6:30pm
Where: Peter/Wright/McKenna Rooms, Cohon University Center

Details:
This informal networking event is an opportunity for undergrad, faculty, and staff women in ECE to mingle and to get to know one another in a relaxed atmosphere. As the inaugural event in the Judith Resnik Year of Women in ECE, I look forward to celebrating the women in the department, while honoring an inspirational alumna, Judith Resnik.

October: WinECE fall dinner

Details:
Women in ECE (WinECE) is an organization encompassing all female undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The WinECE Fall dinner is an annual event for the women of ECE to get to know each other and to hear a little bit more about what it's like to be a woman in industry or academia. There is no strict dress code for the event but we encourage business casual.

November: Rising Stars Workshop

This annual academic career workshop brings together the world’s brightest women Ph.D. students, postdocs, and engineers/scientists, for two days of scientific interactions and career-oriented discussions aimed at navigating the early stages of careers in academia. MIT launched Rising Stars in 2012 to identify and mentor such young stars. This year, the workshop is hosted and sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University‘s Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringCollege of Engineering Center for Faculty Success, and the School of Computer Science, in collaboration with the MIT EECS department.


January: ECE staff high tea
When: Friday, January 27, 2-4pm

To celebrate ECE female staff members, a high tea has been scheduled for the January event. Staff members will enjoy a cup of tea and finger sandwiches while listening to the inspiring words of Melanie Harrington, president and CEO of Vibrant Pittsburgh. View Melanie's bio here.


February: Paint night for graduate and Ph.D. students
When: Wednesday, February 22, 4-6pm
Where: Singleton Room, Roberts Engineering Hall

Details:
Join us for a relaxing paint night just for female masters and Ph.D. students in ECE! An instructional painter will lead us through a two-hour session as we paint Hamerschlag Hall. Space is limited. The first 35 registrants will be guaranteed a canvas. Please RSVP by February 17th. We will close registration once the 35 spaces are full.


March: Lunch & learn: is grad school right for me?
When: Tuesday, March 21, 12-2pm

Are you thinking about graduate school, but not sure if it's right for you? Join ECE advisors and female graduate students for an informal pizza lunch and learn about graduate school options. Stop by before or after class, grab a slice of pizza, and get your questions answered!
