ECE Diploma Ceremony Honors Graduating Class

On May 20, ECE awarded 22 doctor of philosophy, 108 master of science, and 177 bachelor of science degrees. Of the graduates, 21 simultaneously completed both the MS and BS degrees. Among the BS candidates, 78 graduated with university honors (a Q.P.A. of 3.5 or better) and 27 with college honors, completing an intensive senior honors research project.

ECE Department Head Ed Schlesinger led the ceremony, which included the presentation of eight awards. The name of each award, the criteria for winning and the recipients follow:

Frank J. Marshall Scholar Award To an ECE senior in recognition of outstanding scholastic and research achievement. Michael Kasick
Frank J. Marshall Outstanding Undergraduate Award To a senior who has demonstrated a balance of academics, leadership and service to the community. Lauren Chikofsky
David Tuma Laboratory Project Award To the student team creating the most outstanding undergraduate laboratory project. Gary Garvin, William Jenkinson and Steven Nielsen
Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award To an ECE teaching assistant for extraordinary performance in our teaching program. Umit Ogras
A.G. Jordan Award To a graduating ECE doctoral student who has combined outstanding Ph.D. thesis work with exceptional service to the ECE or Carnegie Mellon community. Kim Yaw Tong
A.G. Milnes Award To a graduating ECE doctoral student for Ph.D. thesis work judged to be of the highest quality, which has had or is likely to have significant impact in his or her field. Jason Thornton
Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Award for Outstanding Faculty Teaching To an ECE faculty member in recognition of teaching excellence. Tsuhan Chen
