ECE Welcomes New Students

September 1, 2005

ECE welcomes 68 new graduate students this year and 136 new sophomore ECE majors. Incoming graduate students attended an orientation on August 26 and sophomores were invited to a welcoming reception on September 1.

As part of their introduction to the department, new graduate students heard faculty presentations on research areas and met our staff and the leaders of student and campus organizations. Speakers from across Carnegie Mellon spoke about student services and presented opportunities for involvement in campus activities.

The graduate student orientation culminated with a dinner at the Carnegie Museum where Department Head Ed Schlesinger spoke to the pupils, along with Srinivas Chellappa, Engineering Graduate Organization (EGO) Secretary, who encouraged participation in the group.

At the Sophomore ECE welcome reception, held in the Singleton Room on campus, the agenda included a greeting from the Department Head, introductions, and invitations by speakers from student and campus organizations. Faculty members were on hand for questions and ECE t-shirts were distributed. All of the newcomers could have their photo taken for the department.
