According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, historic Hamerschlag Hall, a hallmark of the Carnegie Mellon University campus, will receive a modern-day face-lift in the form of a $96,750 living roof. Payment for the new roof will come from the state's Energy Harvest Grant program to promote advanced energy technologies. Designed to reduce storm water runoff, heating and cooling costs, and greenhouse gas emissions, the project was one out of 32 chosen by Pennsylvanias Department of Environmental Protection. The Commonwealths News Bureau reported the $5 million state energy plan will also use another $13 million in private donations "to promote advanced energy technologies proven to generate jobs, improve air quality, preserve land, protect watersheds and enhance energy security."
