Pittsburgh will be one of 13 cities on the North American educational tour of ASIMO, Honda Motor Co.'s humanoid robot. The robot, under development since 1986, has two arms, two hands and two legs and can walk forward, backward and up stairs. Takeo Kanade, U.A. and Helen Whitaker Professor of CS and Robotics; Professor of ECE, helped develop ASIMO's vision system. ASIMO's tour began this weekend at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. Details are still pending for its Pittsburgh visit April 28-May 4, which coincides with the first American Open, a robotic soccer tournament hosted by Carnegie Mellon and sanctioned by the RoboCup Federation.
