President:

The president is responsible for the overall running of the organization. This involves planning and scheduling WinECE officer and general body meetings, keeping the organization’s calendar, and running a professional or academic development event each semester. The president may appoint special chairs as needed, for example as liaisons to other organizations, or for WinECE’s involvement with ECE Day. The president will work closely with our advisor, Susan Farrington.

Sarah Hsieh

Sarah HseihMy name is Sarah Hsieh and I am WinECE's president. I'm responsible for the overall running of the organization which includes anything from scheduling meetings to setting up a professional development event every semester and working with our advisor, Susan Farrington, to ensure that the needs of the organization are being met. My goal is for WinECE to contribute to the growing sense of community within the ECE Department.

I am from Columbus, OH and will graduate in 2009. I plan to combine my concentration in signals and systems with my double major in Biomedical Engineering to pursue a career in bioimaging. I am conducting research under Professor Chen. In my free time, I dance for Dancer's Symposium, who put on a production every semester.

Vice President:

The vice president is responsible for planning and running social events, and helps the president when needed. In particular, the vice president is in charge of the fall and spring welcome dinners, and also at least one smaller social event per semester. The vice president may establish a committee to support this role, and will work closely with our advisor regarding issues with funding and food for programs. The vice president will work with the president on WinECE’s contribution to ECE Day.

Jessica Liao

My name is Jessica Liao and I am the vice president of WinECE. In addition to assisting our president, Sarah, I am responsible for planning and running social events such as the fall and spring welcome dinners. This year, I hope WinECE will grow and continue to contribute to the ECE community.

I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and I will graduate in May 2010. My interests include surfing, swimming, hiking, skydiving, and pretty much anything adventurous.

Secretary:

The secretary is responsible for taking minutes at meetings, keeping the website updated with minutes and event announcements, and working with the president and vice president to advertise events. In addition, the secretary is responsible for writing invitations and thank-you notes to speakers and other guests of WinECE.

Charisse Magsipok

Charisse MagsipokMy name is Charisse Magsipok and I'm currently a junior Electrical and Computer Engineering major with a Japanese/Mathematics minor. My interests in my major include computer hardware and software. As secretary, it is my job to help keep the website updated with event announcements and current projects, as well as to develop designs for the website, and work with the president and vice president to advertise events through email and other media.

I'm also a master electrician for the theatre group Scotch N' Soda and a member of the ECE Student Advisory Council. In my free time, I spend my time running around Pittsburgh or relaxing with video games, friends, and family.

Mentoring & Outreach Chair:

The mentoring & outreach chair is in charge of the mentoring program, and also works on events and volunteering opportunities relating to the recruitment of women into ECE and engineering in general at the pre-freshmen and freshmen level. The mentoring & outreach chair may establish a committee to help in this role.

Veronica Yusz

Veronica YuszMy name is Veronica Yusz and this is my third year as the mentoring & outreach chair. This year I hope to expand our outreach program and start a tradition of giving in WinECE. I graduated in May 2007 and am continuing in grad school in pursuit of my Ph.D. I am currently doing research with Professor Jimmy Zhu at the Data Storage Systems Center here at Carnegie Mellon, intensifying my interests in applied physics, specifically magnetism and data storage systems.

Outside the ECE world, I like to read and knit, and I run and do yoga and pilates whenever I get the chance.
