Staff Advisor
My name is Susan Farrington and my role in the ECE Department is Director of Alumni & Student Relations. In that role, I am charged with promoting “community and professional development” to complement the stellar academic environment that exists at Carnegie Mellon University and within the ECE Department. Some of the specific things that I get involved with are: advising ECE student organizations, facilitating ECE Student Advisory Council (SAC), hosting events that celebrate and bring together the ECE community (of students, faculty, alumni and staff), encouraging and promoting our international exchange programs, administering ECE related scholarships and fellowships and interacting with corporations who wish to recruit ECE students for internships, co-ops and full-time positions.
Since I have a background working in industry, often for technology companies, I'm here as an additional career and professional skills resource. My door is “open” or you may make an appointment. I listen and work with you to identify and address student quality of life issues within the department. I consider my role of staff advisor to all five ECE student organizations one of the most important and enjoyable responsibilities that I have. It is through these organizations that students choose to grow personally and professionally and to contribute and make a difference to their academic community. These organizations provide some wonderful opportunities to build friendships and peer networking groups that may last a lifetime. I look forward to meeting you!
