The Pittsburgh Digital Greenhouse continues to sponsor the development of a collaborative SoC program at our three member universities. The University of Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania State University, and Carnegie Mellon University are teaching a Masters-level curriculum with a specialization in SoC Design that was introduced in the fall of 2001. The PDG has supported curriculum development and provided funding for start-up packages for new faculty.
The collaborative SoC curriculum was designed with input from industry in order to better prepare students to be productive in design careers immediately after graduation. The semester-long Major Design Experience course provides students with real-world experience by requiring them to:
- Use industry-standard EDA tools
- Work with industrial strength problems
- Interact with PDG member companies
- Collaborate as part of a design team
- Participate in peer design reviews
