From George Lopez June 20 2005 We now have a video capture board on the memlab5.ece PC (the computer closest to the probe station). It can be used to capture video from the probe station camera directly into digital format. The capture board is a Pinnacle Systems DC30pro that was purchased 5 years ago, previously we've had problems getting it to work on Dell Optiplex PCs. The current Dell Precision PC seems to work perfectly. Using Adobe Premiere 5.1 you have the capability of making movies in various formats such as AVI, MOV, animated GIF, and other formats. You also have the capability to export frames/pictures from the captured movie and also editing the film using Premiere's advanced features. If you want to perform a video capture, follow these procedures: 1) Have your username added to the "AdobePremiereOperators" security group on the memslab5.ece PC by contacting ECE gripe. This provides write access to the C: directory, therefore be careful not to format or delete any system folders. Peter Gilgun suggested that: "If you are waiting for gripe to set up your account and you are not able to write to C: you can use the CD drive as your temp drive to capture images. Just load a direct write formatted CD-R, define this as your temp drive and start capturing." 2) Start Adobe Premiere 5.1 3) When the program starts, the 'New Project Settings' window is open. Load the 'Default' settings, then click 'OK'. This captures at 25 frames per second at 320 x 240 resolution into Microsoft AVI format. 4) At the main window, go to File-->Capture--->Movie Capture. This will open a new window that should show a live image of the probe station camera. 5) Click 'Record' to start recording the live image. The program captures to uncompressed AVI by default but can be set to another video format. A 10 second capture is about 20 MB AVI uncompressed in size. 6) Press 'Esc' to stop recording. Go to File-->Save and save the AVI file. 7) To compress the AVI or convert to other format, go to File-->Export-->Movie. Use different compression algorithms to get a smaller file. 8) To create MPEG files, go to Start-->Programs and start TMPGEnc. This freeware program converts AVI files to either MPEG1 or MPEG2 format.
