  Project:
Mixing and channel-select filtering of superheterodyne receivers are often achieved via separate components. The channel-select filters must often be implemented with off-chip resistors, capacitors, inductors, crystal or SAW resonators to achieve adequately high accuracy, stability and selectivity. These bulky external components impact the cost of products by requiring board-level assembly. Mixers are often implemented with power-consuming transistor circuits. MEMS resonators can be used to perform RF-LO mixing through V^2 electrostatic force and to select the channel through mechanically tuned resonant filtering. Therefore, CMOS MEMS resonators promise the integration of the filters directly onto a standard CMOS or BiCMOS chip, thereby eliminating the need for external components, and they also reduce the power consumption through electrostatic mixing. This research focuses on the detailed analysis CMOS MEMS mixer-filters through computer simulations and the synthesis of a! CMOS MEMS mixer-filter array.
