Eta Kappa Nu National Conference
"In Pursuit of Excellence: Achieving Results through Leadership and Innovation"
Hosted by Sigma Chapter on November 7 - 9, 2008
Conference Summary:
The 2008 Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) National Conference will explore leadership and innovation through a hands-on case study, keynote speakers and a discussion panel drawn from today's leading minds. Participants will experience both personal and professional development as they grow through challenges, learn from experts, and interact with leaders from top engineering and business firms.
Conference speakers have been carefully selected from diverse and rich backgrounds to provide participants with advice and insights in a variety of areas. Glen Meakem, Co-founder and Managing Director of Meakem Becker Venture Capital, will provide the opening keynote addressing entrepreneurship in a technical setting. Dr. Mark Kryder, a professor who became Senior Vice President of Research and CTO at Seagate Technology, will discuss the innovative process and career progression in both academia and industry for the Saturday evening keynote. A panel of top executives will discuss leading the innovative process at corporations both large and small.
The case study will present the types of leadership and technical challenges involved with solving a problem posed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Professor Raj Rajkumar will present the case study to the participants and facilitate a discussion of results following the case study breakout session. Professor Red Whittaker will then share about his perspective on the case study and experience as it applies to the DARPA Urban Challenge, which he led Tartan Racing to successfully complete in 2007.
Hotel accommodations for conference participants will be at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott, a newly renovated facility specifically equipped for professional gatherings. Transportation to and from all conference functions will be provided. Business casual attire is recommended for Friday and Saturday events, while casual attire will be acceptable on Sunday.
