Biography

Gaurav Bhatia is a Research Staff Member in the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He graduated with an Integrated Bachelors and Masters degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003. His research interests are in the areas of embedded and distributed real-time systems. Gaurav has worked on various projects with industry partners such as Robert Bosch R&D, Lockheed Martin, Boeing and General Motors. He is affiliated with the Vehicular Information & Technology Collaborative Research Lab (CRL) as well as the Autonomous Driving CRL which are in partnership with General Motors R&D. He has also worked on the Sensor Andrew initiative which aims to transform Carnegie Mellon into the most sensed university in the world. He worked on the system related aspects of the project which involved the implementation and enhancement of a protocol to enable sensing agents to talk to each other as well as data collection and actuation based on sensed events. His current work involves looking at vehicle-to-infrastructure as well as vehicle-to-vehicle communication for safety and convenience applications. The goal of this project is to look at deploying on-board units into vehicles and implementing safety-related protocols to enable cooperative driving, especially when the vehicles are autonomous.
