18-845: Internet Services Critique 1. Summary One or two paragraphs describing the main ideas and the conclusions. Avoid linear recaps of the form "The authors did this, then that, ...". Note: When you write or present anything, it's very important to have your audience in mind. For critiques, your audience is the author. The goal of the summary is to convince the author that you actually read and understood the paper. If not, they will disregard your comments in the next two sections. 2. Positive Points What you like about this paper. Provide at least three short paragraphs or bullet items. Bullet items must be complete sentences. Avoid vague statements. Be specific, using details and examples, so that the author can understand precisely what you liked about the paper. For example, avoid something like "It's well written", without backing up your claim up with concrete examples. 3. Negative Points What you dont't like about this paper. Provide at least three short paragraphs or bullet items. Bullet items must be complete sentences. As with section 2, avoid vague statements. Each negative point should include enought detail so that the author can take action to improve. 4. Research Questions and Points for Discussion Provide at least three questions or points for discussion for class and be ready to ask them. Examples of good discussion questions include clarification of specific issues (at most one item of this type please), questions about claims made by the authors, ``what if'' questions about situations that aren't handled well by the ideas in the paper, or specific suggestions for improvement.
