Wireless local area networks, and 802.11 networks in particular, are in increasingly important and utilized means of communication. Due to the scarcity of wireless bandwidth, it is important that wireless networks be utilized as efficiently as possible. By failing to consider access point load, current 802.11 access point selection mechanisms fail to make the most efficient use of wireless bandwidth. This paper presents a preliminary analysis of enhanced 802.11 access point selection algorithms.
