Problem 3:
Hennessy & Patterson exercise 5.4 (page 478).

Clarification: The problem statement in H&P Problem 5.4 means to say that it's OK to write a single word to memory when it makes sense to do so. (This would be one of the "assumptions" mentioned in the problem, but we might as well all make the same assumption.) For 5.4(b) the "dirty" bit for a cache block applies to the entire block (i.e., there is not a dirty bit for each word in the block).


Problem 4:
Hennessy & Patterson exercise 5.22 (page 483). You need list only a single application or way in which such a WORM drive could be exploited.
