Xilinx Research Labs

An Overview of Xilinx Research Labs

Over the last few years, Xilinx Research Labs (XRL) has expanded to over thirty employees in San Jose, CA, Longmont, CO, Pittsburgh, PA and elsewhere. This talk will attempt to explain why Xilinx has a research group and what that group is doing -- both for research and for Xilinx. The presentation will cover the organization of the labs, research themes and selected projects in Xilinx Research Labs, including multimedia systems, reconfiguration and high-level design.

Dr. Trimberger joined Xilinx in 1988 and was a member of the architecture definition group for the Xilinx XC4000 FPGA and the technical leader for the XC4000 design automation software. He led the architecture definition group for the Xilinx XC4000X device families. He designed the bitstream security system used on the Virtex-II family of devices. He led the Xilinx Advanced Development group for many years and is currently Distinguished Engineer in Xilinx Research Labs in San Jose. His research interests include reconfigurable computing, cryptography and digital music.
