Radu Marculescu, Associate Professor ECE, and alumnus Girish Varatkar (E'03) have won the 2005 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society TVLSI Best Paper Award for "On-Chip Traffic Modeling and Synthesis for MPEG-2 Video Applications." The paper was published in IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems last January.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Rob A. Rutenbar and doctoral student Saurabh Tiwary were nominated for Best Paper at the 2005 ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference for their paper, "Scalable Trajectory Methods for On-Demand Macromodel Extraction."

Diana Marculescu, Associate Professor of ECE, has been elected chair of the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Design Automation. The society sponsors the design automation conference, the premier electronic design automation and silicon solution event.

June 2005

The Center for Silicon System Implementation (CSSI) hosted its yearly alumni and friends reception at the 42nd annual IEEE/ACM Design Automation Conference (DAC) on June 14 in Anaheim, CA. DAC is the premier electronic design automation (EDA) and silicon solution event. Guests enjoyed plenty of good food and conversation during the CSSI reception at the Anaheim Marriott. Many of our alumni have remained friends and colleagues over the decades. Our Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) liaisons are also invited to the gathering.

January 2005

"Speed and Voltage Selection for GALS Systems based on Voltage/Frequency Islands," by Koushik Niyogi and Diana Marculescu has been awarded the Best Paper at the ASP-DAC 2005 Conference.
