The increasing complexity of electronic systems requires a closer link between hardware and software development. In recent years, computer aided HW/SW co-design has developed into a new research focus in academia and industry.

The Codes/CASHE (Computer Aided SW/HW-Engineering) workshop is the major international forum for the presentation and exchange of ideas and advanced work, and for the identification of new research topics in this field. It addresses theoretical aspects, methods, and tools for computer aided HW/SW co-design. The workshop will consist of short oral presentations combined with poster sessions and of group discussions on selected topics. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

1) CA-techniques for HW/SW co-design Co-specification: languages and techniques, co-modeling and design representation: languages and techniques, co-simulation, co-emulation (e.g. for prototyping), co-verification, co-synthesis.

2) Target architectures HW/SW interface and communication, heterogeneous system design, flexible architectures, embedded system design, co-design case studies.

3) Software for HW/SW co-design Software development, real-time operating systems, process scheduling techniques, distributed systems, and system test for HW/SW systems.

4) System development process Development, engineering, and process management for the design of HW/SW systems.

Proposals for group discussions are very welcome. Proposals should include the main topic of the discussion, an abstract explaining the motivation for the discussion with suggestions for subproblems to be discussed. The abstract should also state if outside people shall be invited to make the discussions more interesting. To allow preparation for group discussions, the abstracts of accepted proposals will be send to the registered attendees well in advance, together with the program. The proposers will be asked to moderate the discussion. Formal proceedings with full papers of oral presentations, abstracts of poster presentations and summaries of the group discussions are planned. Publication of presentations in the proceedings is volontary.

Authors are asked to submit 8 copies of a 10 - 15 page full or draft paper along with three keywords describing the contents of their papers to Rolf Ernst, Technical Program Chair, by July 21, 1995 at the address below. Proposals for group discussions are due by August 25, 1995. Notification of acceptance of the paper will be sent out by October 31, 1995.
