Undergraduate Students

Sponsored international exchange programs

Programs at the following universities are sponsored by the ECE Department and are administered through the ECE undergraduate and student relations offices:

National Chiao-Tung University & Industrial Internships

Hsinchu, Taiwan

The ECE Department has launched a partnership with National Chiao-Tung University (NCTU) in Taiwan. This new agreement establishes an undergraduate student exchange program and allows up to ten of our students to study at NCTU for a semester or a year. Carnegie Mellon students from both the ECE and CS departments who have completed one year of study are encouraged to apply.

Carnegie Mellon students who study in Taiwan during the Spring semester may elect to be placed in industrial internships there during the summer months. In addition, students from NCTU will have the opportunity to come to Carnegie Mellon to experience life and study in the U.S.

Students who participate in this program receive their regular financial aid package and are responsible for accommodation, meal, and travel expenses; medical insurance and/or medical expenses not covered by the approved health insurance of each country or university; textbooks, clothing, and personal expenses; passport and visa costs; non-compulsory incidental fees; and all other debts incurred during the course of the program.

Program Highlights

Shanghai Jiao Tong University & Microsoft Research Asia

Shanghai and Bejing, China

The ECE Department has established an undergraduate student exchange program with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), which will enable Carnegie Mellon students to study in China and SJTU students to come to Carnegie Mellon, for a semester each. As part of the partnership, Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) in Beijing will offer summer internships to up to ten students, five from each school. The program at Carnegie Mellon is centered in the ECE Department but will be open to qualified students from other departments and colleges at Carnegie Mellon.
