The ECE Department participates in several university-wide undergraduate exchange programs. Transfer credit for studies at some universities has been pre-approved, so that special departmental approval procedures are unnecessary.
Two such university exchange programs are located in Lausanne, Switzerland and Monterrey, Mexico. Students who participate in one of these programs receive their regular financial aid package and are responsible for room, board, travel, and miscellaneous expenses.
Lausanne, Switzerland
The Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland is a full-year program open to ECE majors in their junior year. Previous study in French is preferred but not required. Students who are not fluent in French may enroll in a three-month intensive French language program with no increase in tuition; those who are fluent in French may participate in an optional internship at EPFL in place of the language program. The application deadline is in November for the following year.
Monterrey, Mexico
The Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Mexico offers programs that last one semester or a full year. Two years of college-level Spanish study (or the equivalent) are required. Students not fluent in Spanish may enroll in a six-week intensive Spanish language summer program with no increase in tuition.
The application deadlines are in October for the following Spring semester and in March for the summer language program and the Fall semester.
ECE undergraduates who are interested in a student exchange with EPFL or ITESM should contact the Office of International Education for additional information, application materials, and many alternatives for working or studying abroad.
