Project description

This project involves developing the initial capabilities for a pilot set of wireless sensor nodes for a research on monitoring carbon dioxide sequestration sights. Firefly sensor nodes will be programmed to collect data and send it to a base station over a multi-hop ad hoc wireless network. Initial development during this semester will focus on creating a stable programming environment and developing basic capabilities that will serve as the building blocks for future research development. These capabilities include: reading sensor data; power management; time synchronization; message passing and basic signal processing. The project will also involve designing the future application software to be developed during the summer. Experiments will be run to determine message latencies, transmission reliability, and power consumption.
