Project description

My research will explore access controls for data storage in the home environment. The overall goal is to provide as simple a security scheme as possible, so that non-experts can use it effectively while providing the flexibility needed by home users. To explore options, I will be implementing a prototype access control scheme in Perspective, a distributed home storage system being developed by CMU's Parallel Data Lab. This system will be beta tested and then tested in real homes by real users. The tests will expose which aspects are sufficient and which aspects need to be extended or clarified for usability.
