Application for admission

There is no hard deadline for application submission. If you would like the advantage of full consideration, however, please submit your application by February 1, 2015. At that time, ECE's rolling admission process will begin and faculty will start to fill a limited number of slots.

International applicants: It is in your best interest to submit your application no later than February 1 to allow sufficient time for visa processing. Please note that if you submit your application after this date, you may not have time to obtain your visa in time for travel to the U.S. if you are accepted into the internship program.

International Students Only - English Language Proficiency

It is preferred that you submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores, if available. If you have not taken the TOEFL or IELTS, we may need to contact you to conduct a Language Assessment Interview.

Project Preference

Upon admission to the internship program, you will be paired with a professor who is doing research in your preferred field.

Statement of Purpose

Please provide a brief (1–3 paragraph) description of the reason for your interest in this internship, a bit about your career goals, and any research or project experience relevant to the program. In selecting students for the program, we are looking for students who can take direction, work independently, and who have an inquiring mind.

If you have a particular interest in a faculty member or program, please indicate it prominently in your statement.

Letters of Recommendation

Please provide the following information for up to 2 individuals who will be submitting letters of recommendation on your behalf. They will receive an email invitation to complete the letter online. Recommendation letters are an important factor in our selection process. They are strongly encouraged. They are especially valuable for students outside of CMU.

All letters are due by the application deadline. However, please note that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Please ask your references to provide a letter at their earliest convenience.
