Mengshoel quoted in ZDNet

ECE Associate Research Professor Ole Mengshoel was quoted in ZDNet about machine learning and fraudulent behavior against cellular networks. Each year, fraudsters cost the industry nearly $38 billion because they engage in PBX hacking, subscription fraud, dealer fraud, and/or service abuse. Mengshoel suggests that "supervised and unsupervised machine learning makes it possible to analyze massive amounts of data and alert fraud analysts in seconds." According to Mengshoel, fraudsters will continue to threaten both network subscribers and operators alike, so scientists must create a sophisticated approach to identify criminal activity.
