Greve quoted in Spectrum on wireless charging technology

ECE Professor David Greve was quoted in a recent Spectrum article on wireless charging technology. UBeam, a high-profile start-up, has become a tech industry sensation because of the wireless charging technology it says it has developed. UBeam's technology, promised for delivery next year, is supposed to efficiently charge a mobile phone through the air, keeping its batteries from being depleted.

Professor Greve says, “What's missing is HOW they plan to achieve the required sound intensities and receiver efficiency. I am not suspecting that these are unachievable; what I am not sure about is how practical, efficient, and economical the transducers can be. My gut feeling is that a system of this sort will not be very efficient and will be practical for at best limited applications."
