ECE Professor Ozan Tonguz was featured on Your Pittsburgh for his work with virtual traffic lights. Pittsburgh’s KDKA, CBS owned-and-operated television station, airs the evening show to highlight interesting aspects of the region. This particular episode focused on the futuristic technology research currently being conducted at Carnegie Mellon University.

Virtual traffic lights will pop up on the windshield as you approach an intersection, tell you to stop or go, then disappear once you made it through the intersection. Tonguz estimates that this technology could get commuters to work 40% faster and will save about seven hours per week.
