New Super Bowl Stadium App relies on technology developed at Carnegie Mellon

Watching the big game at home has it’s benefits. Viewers can watch the game from different camera angels, receive instant replays and real-time stats, and even listen to the radio for alternative game broadcasts. But what if these features were made available to fans attending the game? With the newly announced NFL Super Bowl Stadium App by Verizon, Super Bowl ticket holders will be able to receive these enhanced in-stadium features for free. The NFL press release describes, “The app offers ticket holders exclusive in-stadium video content such as all Super Bowl commercials and replays from four different camera angles. The app also includes seating and concession maps, once-in-a-lifetime game day opportunities and the option to receive up-to-the-minute game day notifications."

The Super Bowl Stadium App pulls from already existing in-stadium technology first established by YinzCam, born at Carnegie Mellon. YinzCam is a mobile sports app that allows users the opportunity to stay in touch with their favorite sports teams 24x7x365. “YinzCam is technology built by fans, for fans,” says Electrical and Computer Engineering’s Priya Narasimhan, Founder and CEO of YinzCam.

The mobile app now supports 85+ sports franchises around the world, with a mobile experience that goes well beyond the in-venue replays and in-venue live cameras. “I started this company, first and foremost, as a fan. In fact, even our company name comes from the fact that it really was and is about you, the fan, and your view/perspective of the game. “Yinz” is the Pittsburghese equivalent of “y’all” and comes from pronouncing “you ones” fast enough,” Narasimhan says. “To this day, we’ve never forgotten that the fan is the ultimate client in all that we do.”

The Super Bowl Stadium App Presented by Verizon may be downloaded by visiting or the app store and is available on Windows, iOS, Android smartphones.
