ECE Announcements

• Tuesday is the new Monday and email is working again! Hope you enjoyed taking a break Monday night for IEEE's Heroes' Fall Premier in HH-1112.
• Check out the ECE Weekly Calendar below. This week includes: First ECE SAC meeting of the academic year on Tuesday, Professor James Hoe's annual talk about going to grad school on Wednesday, and the Fall IEEE BBQ on Friday.
• I trust you survived TOC week and are refocused on academics. If you have any questions as you think about career directions or consider internship and full time offers, please feel free to talk with me or consult with Carol Young in the Career Center. You're welcome to stop by my office in HH-1110 or email me to make an appointment. Carol is by appointment only.
  
• Carnegie Mellon University's Network Nights starts this year with New York and will be sponsored by the IBM Industry Solutions Lab.
  

Scholarships

Boeing is offering three $2,500.00 scholarships for ECE juniors this year. Please review the criteria and process below, then forward your application via email to sfarring@ece.cmu.edu by October 10, 2008. ECE Juniors, please apply if you meet the qualifications.

• Boeing scholarship criteria: Recipient has to be a citizen of the United States and have a QPA of 3.0 or greater and interest, broadly speaking, in the aerospace industry. Recipient should promote Boeing values, especially leadership, teamwork, quality (i.e. academic excellence) and diversity. Boeing encourages under-represented minorities and/or economically disadvantaged students to apply.
  
• Process: Forward your resume with QPA and a brief statement about why you think you should be considered as indicated above to sfarring@ece.cmu.edu by October 10, 2008.

This scholarship is not directly connected to employment at Boeing. However, if you win the award you will be recognized by the Boeing team when they are on campus and will be able to indicate your status as a Boeing scholar when applying for positions online.

ECE SAC (Student Advisory Council)
Time: 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided.

Note: If you are an ECE undergrad or IMB student, you are welcome to attend. SAC meets approximately every three weeks to discuss ideas and issues, large and small, academic and non-academic, relating to life in ECE. Ideas and issues with merit are passed on to the ECE Administration. Students lead the discussions; Susan Farrington joins some meetings and provides the food. A good time is had by all!
