ECE welcomes 55 new graduate students and 170 new sophomore ECE majors this year. Incoming graduate students attended an orientation on August 24 and sophomores were invited to a welcoming reception on August 30.
As part of their introduction to the department, new graduate students heard faculty presentations on research areas and met our staff and the leaders of student and campus organizations. Speakers from across Carnegie Mellon spoke about student services and presented opportunities for involvement in campus activities.
The graduate student orientation culminated with a dinner at the Carnegie Museum where Department Head Ed Schlesinger spoke to the pupils, along with Srinivas Chellappa, ECE Graduate Organization (EGO) representative, who encouraged participation in the group.
Sophomore ECE majors attended the ECE sophomore welcome reception on August 30 in the Singleton Room in Roberts Engineering Hall. Students had the opportunity to talk to faculty and staff advisors and meet ECE student leaders. Both incoming graduate students and sophomores could have their photo taken for the department.
