Marculescu and Varatkar Win IEEE Best Paper Award

Radu Marculescu, Associate Professor of ECE, and alumnus Girish Varatkar (M.S. 2003) won the 2005 Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration Systems (TVLSI) Best Paper Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society. Their paper, "On-Chip Traffic Modeling and Synthesis for MPEG-2 Video Applications, was published in IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems, Vol. 12, No. 1, in January 2004.

Marculescu and Varatkar were announced as the award winners during the International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) in Kobe, Japan in May. They received a plaque and a cash prize during a ceremony at the Design Automation Conference (DAC) in Anaheim this month. Varatkar is pursuing his Ph.D. in the ECE Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
