April 1, 2005
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to celebrate Different Color Hair Day on April 6 at 12:15 p.m. by the clock in front of Doherty Hall. After over 250 people met the challenge last year to change their hair, the professor that organized the event shaved his head for Children's Hospital. This year, Bill Messner, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and ECE, is again up for a healthy wagerthis time promising to sport a Mohawk if the number doubles to 500 or more.
To take part in the festivities, you can bleach, color, dye, spray, streak your hair, or just wear a wig. Spray on color will be provided for walk-ins. Benefiting tsunami relief, the money raised will assist the efforts of the Y Men's Club of Dehiwala, Sri Lanka, to rebuild villages on Sri Lanka's southern coast.
Suggested pledges are $0.002, $0.005, or $0.01 per participant, e.g. 508 participants x $ 0.002 pledge = $1.01 donation. You can sign-up for your pledge at the event and write checks out to "Carnegie Mellon University" with "tsunami relief" on the memo line.
