Kanade and Schneiderman Earn Image Processing Patent

Takeo Kanade, U.A. and Helen Whitaker Professor of CS and Robotics; Professor of ECE, and Henry Schneiderman, Research Scientist, Robotics Institute, have patented their object finder for photographic images (No. 6,829,384). According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the image processing and image recognition technology provides a way to detect 3D (three dimensional) objects in a 2D (two dimensional) image that contains 2D representation of the 3D objects. The patent was received on December 7 and is related to the Honda humanoid vision project.
