ECE welcomes 70 new graduate students this year and 160 new sophomore ECE majors. Incoming ECE graduate students were greeted on August 20 with a morning of faculty presentations on research areas and an afternoon featuring introductions to staff and the leaders of student and campus organizations. Speakers from across Carnegie Mellon addressed student services and presented opportunities for involvement in campus activities.
The graduate orientation culminated with a dinner at the Carnegie Museum on August 26. Vijayakumar Bhagavatula, Acting Department Head; Professor of ECE, spoke to the pupils, along with ECE graduate student and Engineering Graduate Organization (EGO) President Winnie Yu and Lynn Philibin, Assistant Department Head for Graduate Studies.

A sophomore welcome reception is planned on September 8 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Singleton Room. The agenda includes a greeting from Acting Department Head Vijayakumar Bhagavatula, faculty introductions, and invitations by speakers from student and campus organizations. The department will take student photos and ECE t-shirts will be distributed. All sophomore ECE majors are encouraged to attend.
