December 4, 2003

ECE Professor and Dowd Teaching Fellow Vijayakumar Bhagavatula will speak about his book, "Correlation Pattern Recognition: Theory and Applications" on Dec. 10 from 2-4 p.m. in Hamburg Hall 1000. He will discuss the MATLAB-based face and fingerprint verification demonstrations used in his Pattern Recognition Theory course, 18-794. Three Dowd ICES Fellows will also present on the following topics:

The Philip L. and Marsha Dowd Teaching Fellowship is awarded to a faculty member in engineering to recognize educational contributions and to encourage the undertaking of an educational project.

Each Dowd ICES Fellowship provides support to a graduate student who is conducting cutting edge research on projects for which traditional sources of funding may not be readily available. An endowment from Philip L. Dowd (B.S. Materials Science Engineering, 1963) and Marsha Dowd provides for the fellowships.

A reception will follow the presentations.

Graduate student Marios Savvides demonstrates correlation filter research.
