March 15, 2002

Pradeep Khosla, ECE Department Head and Philip and Marsha Dowd Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Robotics, was featured as a faculty advisor for Information Technology University (ITU) Ventures, a venture capital firm, in the The Chronicle of Higher Education's article, "Chasing the Rainbow: A Venture Capitalist on the Trail of University-Based Companies." The article shadowed Jonah Schnel, one of ITU's three partners, during visits with faculty and staff at Carnegie Mellon, UCLA, and the California Institute of Technology.

As a faculty advisor for ITU, Khosla refers venture capitalists to promising research areas. Researchers benefit through industry connections and funding to develop ideas beyond their laboratories, while investors can explore the market possibilities from university-born businesses.

Based in Beverly Hills, ITU invests in companies that are connected to universities and specialize in information systems, telecommunications, software, data networking, semiconductors, and optical technologies.
