ECE Alumnus' Paper One of Most Accessed in IEEE
A paper co-authored by ECE alumnus Pavel Nikitin (Ph.D. 2002) has remained on the IEEE's list of 100 most accessed documents for six consecutive months. Nikitin co-wrote "Antenna Design for UHF RFID Tags: A Review and a Practical Application," with his colleagues at Intermec Technologies Corporation, where he is a Lead Engineer. He is also an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the EE Department at the University of Washington. The article was published in IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation last December. Nikitin's faculty advisor at Carnegie Mellon was ECE Professor Daniel Stancil.
ECE Graduate Student Wins Best Student Paper Award
ECE graduate student Ahren Studer won a best student paper award at the international conference on Applied Cryptography and Network Security (ACNS), held June 6-9 in Singapore. Ahren's paper, "Adaptive Detection of Local Scanners," was also his Master's thesis, completed under the direction of his faculty advisor, Chenxi Wang. His publication was one of only 33 accepted from 218 submissions. The research analyzes new approaches to detecting network reconnaissance that can detect a larger range of attackers than previous methods, while incurring comparable or less false alarms.
