Even though ECE senior Kuok Chiang Kim has a full schedule with a minor in Biomedical Engineering and classes in the Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) program, he is always looking ahead to develop his career. He completed an eight month cooperative education (co-op) experience at ABB Switzerland's Corporate Research Center, was nominated last year for the Student Employee of the Year Recognition Award for his work on the School of Music’s website, and participated in a summer undergraduate research program as a Merck Scholar. Let’s join Kuok as he shares the details of his co-op.

This fall Sonya Reed Johnson, a second-year ECE graduate student, won a competitive 2004 U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Fellowship that covers her tuition and her stipend for up to three years. Sonya's security-related research centers around the objectives of the DHS, including benchmarking the survivability of secure systems and using the results to develop a new breed of proactively survivable distributed infrastructures.

If ECE sophomore Brian Loo told you he stayed in the dorms this summer, you might think he meant Morewood or Donner. But this world traveler went quite a distance from Pittsburgh; because his goal is to one day put his ECE degree to work in a Chinese speaking environment, he lived on campus at the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). Enrolling in an eight week study abroad program, he learned the language with 13 other Carnegie Mellon students and went on a side trip to Inner Mongolia. Let's tag along as he talks about his visit.
