Shadi Saberi: Intel Foundation/SRCEA Scholarship Winner
Shadi Saberi was awarded an Intel Foundation/Semiconductor Research Corporation Education Alliance (SRCEA) Scholarship through the SRC Master's Scholarship Program. A graduate student in ECE, Shadi was selected from a nationwide contest of minorities and women for outstanding academic achievement and microelectronics research.
Dumitras Wins Graduate Student Service Award
ECE graduate student Tudor Dumitras is this year's recipient of Carnegie Mellon's Graduate Student Service Award, which will be presented as part of Professional and Graduate Student Appreciation Week. He was selected for his support of graduate students not only in ECE, but also at the university, in Pittsburgh and even around the world. Dumitras is president of the ECE and Information Networking Institute (INI) Graduate Student Organization (EGO) and has been a leader in the group for several years, serving as vice president and social, publicity and sports chair.
Lauren Chikofsky
Just like the antennas she works on that can change their shape and frequency on demand, ECE junior Lauren Chikofsky has learned to hone her technical and leadership skills to respond to the challenges of being a student leader. The Executive Chair of Women in ECE (WinECE) won a Boeing Scholarship with ECE senior Mark Hairgrove, makes time for undergraduate research, and also assists with the pre-college program that led her to ECE.
Chris Marshall
What does setting up a rock concert have to do with electrical and computer engineering? Plenty, according to ECE senior Chris Marshall, who coordinated the light and sound for the stages at spring carnival. Using his knowledge of power distribution, electroacoustics, and signal processing, he helped lead the backstage work for the Shins concert. Let's go behind the scenes with Chris.
Todd Kozuki: Part of Carnegie Mellon’s QRIO Connection
Alumnus Todd Kozuki was part of an entourage from Sony that brought the company's two-foot tall humanoid robot to campus. QRIO danced, talked and schmoozed through a 20-minute show. In the future a QRIO may be as common in the home as a television set is today, Kozuki says.
