Ed Schlesinger State Grant Will Augment Energy Systems Research

At a news conference on the Carnegie Mellon campus, Governor Edward G. Rendell said today that 18 colleges, universities, academic medical institutions and research institutions from across the state will receive a total of $2.5 million from the Keystone Innovation Starter Kit Program to recruit top faculty researchers in advanced knowledge areas.

The $150,000 grant received by Carnegie Mellon will be used to recruit a faculty member in the area of modern energy systems and information technology. ECE Department Head Ed Schlesinger said the grant will augment ongoing energy systems research.

College Award Winners 2009 Four ECE Faculty Win College Awards

ECE faculty have won three out of four of the College of Engineering awards just announced today by CIT Dean Pradeep Khosla:

David Ricketts -- The George Tallman Ladd Research Award

Vijayakumar Bhagavatula and Marios Savvides -- The CIT Outstanding Research Award

José Moura -- The Philip L. Dowd Fellowship Award

Umit Y. Ogras and Amith Singhee ECE's Ogras and Singhee win European Best Thesis Awards

ECE graduates Umit Y. Ogras and Amith Singhee have won 2008 Outstanding Dissertation Awards from the European Design Automation Association (EDAA). Each year, EDAA gives Outstanding Thesis awards across four areas related to design automation for integrated circuits and systems.

jajoo-reinke-wang ECE Students Place Third in IC Design Challenge

A team of three ECE graduate students have placed third in the second and final phase of the 2007-2008 SRC/SIA IC Design Challenge. Abhishek Jajoo, John Reinke and Leon Wang also won third place in Phase One of the Challenge judged in March.
