Radu Marculescu, Diana Marculescu Win Best Paper Award
ECE Professors Radu and Diana Marculescu, former Ph.D. student Umit Ogras and former ECE post-doc Eun Gu Jung have earned the 2011 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society VLSI Transactions Best Paper Award. The award recognizes the best paper published in the Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration Systems publication and is based on general quality, originality, contributions, subject matter and timeliness. ECE Co-Hosts Workshop on Diversity in Design Automation and Test
Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh will co-host the first CRA-W/CDC Workshop on Diversity in Design Automation and Test May 23–24 at the University of Pittsburgh's University Club. The workshop, "Putting D(iversity) in Design Automation and Test," intends to provide senior undergraduates, graduate students and early post-doctoral researchers from underrepresented groups with an overview of the field, research directions and career paths available in design automation and test. Cowley Earns Goldwater Scholarship
ECE Junior Benjamin Cowley is among three Carnegie Mellon students to receive Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships to encourage the pursuit of careers in the sciences. Cowley was among 278 sophomores and juniors nationwide chosen from more than 1,000 nominations to receive scholarships this year. (Read more.)
Clarke Elected to Academy of Arts & Sciences
Edmund M. Clarke, the FORE Systems University Professor of Computer Science and professor of electrical and computer engineering, is among 212 leaders in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts, business and public affairs who have been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences (AAAS) this year. Clarke is the 17th AAAS member affiliated with Carnegie Mellon. (Read more.)
Becker Wins SMART Scholarship
Second-year Ph.D. student Jonathan Becker has earned a Science, Mathematics & Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship to support his work on evolved anti-jamming beamforming antenna arrays. The scholarship, sponsored by the National Defense Education Program, supports undergraduate, master's and doctoral students who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for excelling in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.
