Mutlu.jpg Two Mutlu Papers Named Top Picks

Two research papers co-authored by Assistant Professor of ECE Onur Mutlu have been published in a collection of 2010's most significant computer architecture papers, as chosen by IEEE Micro magazine. At the beginning of each year, the leading IEEE periodical in computer architecture and design selects 10–12 "Top Pick" computer architecture papers of the past year based on the publication's novelty and potential for long-term impact. Mutlu's papers — among the 11 selected for 2010 — both tackle the problem of designing more scalable and efficient multicore systems. (Read more.)

Ganger.jpg Ganger Earns Stephen J. Jatras Professorship

ECE Professor Gregory R. Ganger has been awarded the Stephen J. Jatras Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering for cutting-edge work in computer systems.

"Greg is an outstanding researcher, educator and academic leader. His work addresses fundamental engineering challenges, and solves important problems even while he builds unique systems and organizations," said ECE Department Head Ed Schlesinger. "He is a wonderful example of the spirit of Carnegie Mellon's culture of collaboration." (Read more.)

Martins.jpg?w=130 Alum Named President of Intel in Brazil

Fernando Martins, who earned his Ph.D. in ECE with University Professor of ECE José M. F. Moura in 1997, has been named the new president and general manager of Intel in Brazil. In his more than 13 years at Intel, Martins has served as global director of Strategic Planning, and was responsible for the company's Initiative on Virtualization, which, according to a press release, caused a positive impact on company revenues. His success at the company earned him the Intel Achievement Award twice. (Read more.)

Rajkumar_sm.jpg Rajkumar Earns Carnegie Science Award

Raj Rajkumar, the George Westinghouse Professor of Electrical Engineering, has earned a Carnegie Science Award in the Information Technology category. The awards, established in 1997, recognize and promote innovation in science and technology across western Pennsylvania. Specifically, the Information Technology Award honors innovation in the development and commercialization of an information technology-based solution resulting in significant business impact. ECE Professor Ragunathan (Raj) Rajkumar has received the George Westinghouse Professorship in Electrical Engineering for driving Carnegie Mellon research in the automotive industry. "Raj is an outstanding researcher and a stellar example of our longstanding tradition of collaborative, problem-solving research designed to advance engineering practice for the benefit of consumers and industry," said ECE Department Head Ed Schlesinger.
