18-879C: Special Topics in Systems and Controls: Optimal Control

This course will cover the fundamentals of optimal control theory with application to several areas including robotics and aeronautics. Specific topics include: extrema of functions and functionals with and without constraints, Lagrange multipliers, optimization of continuous and discrete time dynamic systems with and without contraints, interior points, bang-bang control, Pontryagin maximum principle, Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations, singular optimal control, and adaptive optimal control.
