The goal of this graduate class is to provide an overview of cutting-edge research on the new paradigm of self-configuration networks, ranging from wireless ad-hoc, sensor and mesh networks with special emphasis on their role as enabling technologies for global computing; finally, this class addresses the paradigm of autonomic communications. The envisioned syllabus offers the students the opportunity to grasp the fundamental principles of wireless networking and to understand the main problems that arise in self-organised networks capable of providing services, performing distributed computation, gathering sensor data and interacting with the environment.
